Abstract

The problem of the outflow of the population has been persisting in the Far East for
more than a dozen years. The Far East is characterized by difficult natural and climatic condi-
tions, isolation and difficulties in economic development. This is what encourages its population
to migrate. The main part of migration flows has always been the young population, which is
explained by its specificity as a special socio-demographic group. The Far East every year loses
its young population, which is a significant strategic resource for the development of society
and the region. The loss of a significant part of the young population is a serious threat to the
socio-economic development of the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District. A high level of
migration sentiment, which is formed on the basis of an assessment of the possibilities and reali-
ties of living in the region or in their locality, can push young people to the desire to migrate
from their native region. This article is devoted to the analysis of the migration intations of
young people on the example of Primorsky Krai, one of the regions of the Far Eastern Federal
District, where there is a large migration outflow. As a research method, the authors chose the
method of sociological survey – questioning. 156 young people from various settlements of Pri-
morsky Krai aged 16–22 were interviewed. Based on the results of the study, the level of migra-
tion intations of the youth of Primorsky Krai was clarified, which was defined by the authors as
high. The reasons that encourage young people to migrate were also clarified, the socio-
demographic characteristics of young people with a high level of migratory moods were identi-
fied. The conducted research makes it possible to assert that for Primorsky Krai there is a po-
tential danger of losing a significant part of its young population, which threatens with irre-
versible, negative consequences for the socio-economic development of the region. The results
of the study can expand other research vectors aimed at studying the territories of the Far East-
ern Federal District.
